AICA approval was granted by the government of Namibia to function as a regulatory and professional body for the arbitrators in Namibia and Africa in general.Since then, it has grown in its membership and has over 100 members.its membership cuts across all disciplines including practitioners in Law, Construction, Shipping, Engineering, Insurance, Banking, Accounting, Oil & Gas etc.
AICA has in its fold, seasoned Arbitration Practitioners of international repute. In the exercise of its functions, it maintains close links with other professional arbitral bodies worldwide.
AICA is recognized as the professional body for training and examination of those seeking to become qualified arbitrators, mediators and other ADR Practitioners.
AICA also maintains a register of qualified arbitrators and mediators, and monitors the professional conduct of its members while also providing continuing professional development to ensure that progressive training is undertaken.
In the United Kingdom, the President and the Vice Presidents of the AICA are responsible for appointment of arbitrators under the rules of many independent arbitration schemes and will, in addition, make individual appointments when so requested by the parties to any dispute. Furthermore, many of the important professional and trade bodies in the United Kingdom, and elsewhere, take note of entries on the Chartered Institute's register when appointing arbitrators under their own rules.
